Bike-IT

Bike-IT iis a national scheme run by Sustrans, the sustainable transport charity, in conjunction with local authorities. The scheme is currently operating in Gateshead and South Tyneside and involves a dedicated officer working with schools to promote cycling. In the schools in which it operates, Bike-IT has been highly successful in achieving cycling take-up – showing just what can be achieved with concerted promotion.

Living Streets projects

Living Streets are currently running a programme called ‘Step Up’, which works with secondary schools to help pupils to assess the walking routes to their school. Several schools in Tyne & Wear are taking part – contact Living Streets for details.
