travel for disabled people

The Metro, Ferry and most bus services are all now accessible to disabled people and those with mobility impairments.

But for when these services don't meet your needs, there are two other options for travel in Tyne & Wear.

Linkup
LinkUp is a bus service that you book by phone and is available to everyone in Tyne and Wear.

It provides journeys at times when regular services are not operating, or where direct services to your destination are not available. It can collect you and drop you off much closer to where you want to be, and you can choose your own (rough) departure times, thanks to some clever computers. Linkup uses small, modern and fully accessible buses. Fares are similar to using standard buses.

You can book a Linkup journey by calling 0191 2020666 or for more information visit the Nexus Linkup pages.

TaxiCard
Taxicard is available for people with certain disabilities, to help them get around more easily.

It's a smartcard, the same size as a credit card, and you can use it to pay for part of your journeys by taxi. It will have £100 worth of taxi fares on it when you receive it.

You will pay the first £1.50 of any journey yourself, then the next £2.50 will be deducted from your card, then you will pay for the rest of the fare.

For further information please visit Nexus' Taxicard pages.
