It’s important that children start the school day in the best possible way. Being cooped-up in the back seat of a car on their way to class can leave them tired and sluggish just when they need their concentration most.

Most children already walk or cycle to school and this simple exercise can be enough to give them the fresh-air and energy they need to perform at their best. So if you currently drive your children to school, why not consider walking with them instead? If you live too far for this to be practical there are still some simple things you can do – for instance, try parking a five minute walk from the school gates and walking the rest of the way, otherwise the walk to a bus/Metro stop can provide good exercise, before public transport takes you quickly and safely the rest of the way.

And why not save a bit of cash too? Walking and cycling are very low-cost, and with public transport fares for under-16s starting at just £1 a day, catching the bus or Metro is also very cost-effective!
